- To promote networking opportunities for research, learning, and innovation in Lamu, aiming to establish partnerships and acquire new insights for funding opportunities.
- To promote peace and security initiatives for youths in Lamu by reducing violence, promoting conflict resolution skills, and fostering community resilience.

On behalf of the entire Lamu Youth Alliance membership fraternity, the Chief Executive Director LYA wishes to acknowledge the support of members who contributed in providing useful information during the planning and development of this plan. We wish to thank the Lamu County Government and other non-state actors for their invaluable contributions and critical analysis of LYA’s positioning in the county response. We acknowledge the great support of the Aga Khan Foundation, not only in providing technical assistance and review to this plan, but for their support in providing financial resources to make this strategy a reality. We also wish to extend our appreciation to development partners for providing their sincere opinions on the direction that LYA should take in its future programming. We extend our appreciation to various teams for their support in providing useful global information providing a focus for this plan. Finally, we extend our sincere gratitude to the LYA network family for making us what we are today; without the membership, we would never have made it this far.
Our Goals
1. Youth Empowerment Through Entrepreneurship Development
Goal: By 2029, empower youth in Lamu through entrepreneurship development by providing targeted skills training and facilitating access to financial resources, fostering sustainable community growth and economic resilience.
- Objective: By 2029, empower 100 young entrepreneurs in Lamu County to access microfinance opportunities, facilitating financial resources for business development and growth.
- Logic: If we provide targeted skills, training, and access to financial resources, then youths will acquire the required resources, then they will utilize the resources, then we will have empowered youths.
- Assumptions:
- They will participate actively.
- They will effectively utilize the resources.
2. Promote Youth Participation in Environmental Conservation in Lamu
Goal: By 2029, promote youth participation in environmental conservation in Lamu by implementing sustainable practices and restoring degraded ecosystems, leading to enhanced biodiversity health.
- Objective 1: By 2029, implement sustainable practices in Lamu to reduce environmental impact and promote conservation efforts.
- Objective 2: By 2029, restore and protect 500 Ha of degraded ecosystems in Lamu to enhance biodiversity health and ecosystem resilience.
- Objective 3: By 2029, support the establishment of at least 5 community-based enterprises in Lamu County to enhance community resilience and promote sustainable economic development.
- Objective 4: By 2029, enhance the capacity and sustainability of 10 existing enterprises in Lamu County through tailored support and interventions, aimed at improving operational efficiency, market competitiveness, and community impact.
- Logic: If we promote youth participation in environmental conservation, then they will implement sustainable practices and restore degraded ecosystems, then we will have enhanced biodiversity health.
- Assumptions:
- The youths will actively participate.
- They will implement sustainable practices.
- They will restore the degraded ecosystem.
3. Provide Access to Education
Goal: By 2029, enhance Lamu youth’s access to information for knowledge building and skills development through the provision of learning opportunities.
- Objective: By 2029, implement at least 10 new youth education programs across Lamu County, focusing on literacy, vocational training, and continuing education to improve the skills and employability of community members.
- Logic: If we provide Lamu youths access to learning opportunities, then they will acquire knowledge and skills for growth and development, then we will have empowered youth.
- Assumptions:
- Lamu Youth Alliance will provide adequate learning opportunities.
- Youths will actively participate in acquiring the knowledge and skills.
- Effective implementation of the skills and knowledge acquired.
4. Promoting Youth Participation in Peace Building and Leadership
Goal: By 2029, promote youth participation in peacebuilding and leadership initiatives through community-based programs and fostering dialogue for peaceful coexistence among communities in Lamu.
- Logic: If we promote youth participation in peace building and leadership initiatives, then they will advocate for peace among communities, then we will have peaceful co-existence among communities in Lamu.
- Assumptions:
- Lamu Youth Alliance will promote peaceful dialogues.
- The targeted youths will actively participate in the peace dialogues.
